Newquay Dramatic Society
was founded in 1931 and we have been entertaining our patrons continuously since that date.

During our early years performances were held at the theatre in St. Michaels Road then the Cosy Nook Theatre on the promenade above Towan Beach.

In 1980 the Society purchased the Lane Village Hall which opened in 1981 as Lane Theatre.

We have upgraded our facilities as funds have permitted and in 1999 obtained substantial funding from the National Lottery (Arts Council) which
enabled us to improve our facilities both in front of and behind the curtain.

Lane Theatre has an intimate 136 seat auditorium and caters fully for our friends with disabilities.

2009 is another exciting year for us.
The roof of the auditorium is being replaced and the new fully insulated roof will keep our audiences
warmer in the winter and cooler in summer as well as providing a quieter environment.
The wooden doors and windows are being replaced with uPVC units again improving heat efficiency.
Thanks to the generosity of the late Ian Downie we are to have new stage curtains (tabs).
In addition we are undertaking a major upgrade of our stage lighting. The board of
SITA Cornwall Trust Ltd.
has agreed a grant to enable us to purchase 'state of the art' lighting control equipment.
We are most grateful to them for their faith in the Society and support for our local community.

Above all the Society thanks the people of Newquay for their loyal support over the years.
Without them there would be no Lane Theatre.
